So, I have not been very good at keeping up with my blog. I was posting on vox very irregularly, but apparently they closed since the last time I wrote anything over there, haha on me.

Lots of changes in the past year. But starting the new year in a new residence and new attitude.

On the knitting front, I am happy with some changes I made in my etsy shop and the increase in revenue it brought. I am still working on the knitting from my stash, although I kind of went overboard a couple of times in 2010. Looks like I purchased 95 skeins, and only used 41. According to my card tracking system, I have about 232 full and partial skeins to play with in 2011. I did go 7 months without a yarn purchase in 2010, unfortunately, there were also 4 months when no yarn was used. I can do better.

I also hope to finish some of the projects I have started, or frog them and use the yarn for something else. Currently I have a gray sweater (lia), purple scarf (wiltshire), everyday wrap, abrazo wrap, baby hat, and cowl in progress. Plus the central park hoodie that I can not find all the parts to (in some box from the last move). I can do better.

Seems as though it has been awhile since I posted here...
In 2007, I started on this project of using yarn from my collection and trying not to purchase excess. In looking at my cards (I gave each yarn a card listing the skein details and I also note what projects the yarn was used for on the card) it seems that I have about 85 skeins remaining from the 122 I think I should have had at the beginning of 2008... I think I may have purchased 53 skeins during the year, and used 48. This means that I did not achieve my goal of reducing my stash significantly, unfortunately. It hurts my numbers that in January I purchased 32 skeins!! (for a sweater and a blanket project, neither of which were completed) In looking at my cards and seeing the number of finished projects, I am proud of what I have accomplished. I averaged about 4 skeins a month usage (and there were several months where only one skein was used!!) For 2009, I will continue on this project of using yarn from my collection and hope to finish more of the projects that are waiting.

Yes, I am still working on this project... It is an easy knit, but time consuming! Something that I do not have much of these days as I have taken on a part time job. It is an amazing opportunity for me, I am very excited. But I have so much to learn!

So I finished one sleeve and started the second. Photo #2 shows I only have a few more inches to go and I can bind off! Then I can make progress on the body....

As far as my stash goes, I only used up three skeins in May :( and I was gifted 6... So I have more to knit... I have to be creative with what I was gifted as it is not yarn I would normally select, although the gesture was nice.

Stash update

So I have not have much time to do anything lately... It seems I fell down on my stash posting too... The cards (used for tracking skeins and projects yarn was used for) are handy. For March I used 9 skeins and acquired one as a gift. In April, I have only used 3 skeins and it is not likely I will use more in the next 3 days although anything is possible. So that is -12 skeins for two months.

Most of the yarn used was wool. Turned into blankets for charity (animal shelter size)

I did a better job of patterning and color matching on the second one.
Of course, there were a bunch of cotton cloths (even more than these!)
My latest works are these modified ballband style swiffer-esque covers. I'm in love with the ball band :) Easy to use and wash, ready for next time!

Knitting progress for February... I only finished three skeins of yarn. Two for the lily cardigan and one cotton skein. My time was apparently spent some place else... studying? at least in part... The upside, I did not purchase any new skeins on February! I have alot to use up!

Knitting resolutions

Knitting resolutions
1) Continue with stash reduction
2) Finish a pair of socks
3) Finish Central Park Hoodie (or similar)
4) Continue charity knitting
5) Knit more for me
6) Knit more projects that I have purchased patterns for, or have patterns "waiting"

Stash Rules:
a) Restrict purchases to those needed for a project or to finish something (or as requested), not impulse purchase "because its pretty or soft"
b) Knit at least as many skeins as purchased in a month by the end of the next month (trying not to increase stash, although large purchases such as for sweaters may be extended for the time to complete the project for the sake of dye lot) This is a modification of my old rule of one skein for each 5 used.
c) Specific requests (i.e., gifts or customers) may be exempt, but should be knit in a timely manner.

Per my count I should have about 122 skeins in my stash. When I entered my collection on ravelry, I do not think these numbers quite match... but at least it is a starting place... I hope to have fewer skeins at the end of 2008.

Knitting Progress -- updated from April list

Back in April I decided to go on a Yarn diet and complete a few projects... The list I made at that time was as follows:
1) Chic Knits Ribby Shell
2) Knitty's Isabella
3) Shawl... I know this one is vague... I have several picked out, but I keep changing my mind - there is yarn for at least two...
4) Baby hats... I have been buying some soft acrylic that will be easy to wash in bright colors and have several ideas in my head
5) Charity afghan squares... maybe one in-between each of the other projects?
6) Socks... now that I have several skeins of sock yarn, it is time to make progress in this area too.
7) Fake-a-gamo in lovely bamboo yarn
8) Isabeau in Rowan summer tweed that I have ripped out about 20 times.
9) Dishcloth squares in various patterns that I have been accumulating

So how did I do:
1) Finished Ribby Shell
5) Finished knitting a charity animal shelter blanket (not afghan squares, but this works for me)
7) Started (yesterday) the fake-a-gamo
8) Started the Isabeau (it is blocking) needs assembly, a strap and a lining
9) Finished tons of dishcloths!

Finished several bowls that were felted and a pair of slippers for my mom.
I bought yarn (especially for dishcloths) and last week for a new sweater... Most of what I purchased I have used up, or purchased with a specific project in mind.

Since Starting the first stash diet (when I did the inventory although I don't think I posted the total then) I have 86 skeins remaining in my stash...
+ 15 purchased in June
+ 5 purchased in September
+ 6 purchased in November
+ 10 purchased in December
Grand total: 122 skeins (or partials) hanging around my stash currently

This is not to say no progress has been made:
9 skeins finished May
13 skeins finished June
14 skeins finished July
10 skeins finished August
9 skeins finished September
8 skeins finished October
15 skeins finished November
11 skeins finished December
OR 89 skeins used since I started keeping track. I feel pretty good about that.

I have plenty of yarn to keep me occupied for awhile, so no new purchases are necessary. I want to use up what I have, but I don't think I will join a stash along again in 2008. I did sign up for a clean plate in 2008 -- achieved that goal, but then I started the isabeau and fake-a-gamo, so... The biggest lesson: don't let projects linger! The ribby shell was an excellent example of lingering. It was not hard, there are no mistakes (that I remember) and it fits. The yarn is nice to work with, so why did I wait so long to finish? I let other things take priority... I'll do another post with the next set of projects -- or just look at my list in ravelry :)

Yes, this is the ribby shell that I started back in May. It is not a hard knit, I just got distracted by all the cloths I knit and bowls for felting... But, I joined the "Clean slate by 2008" group on Ravelry with the explicit goal of finishing all projects by the end of the year. I only have this shell and a charity animal shelter "blanket" that I just started on Saturday.

Since I took this photo, I have finished the back and worked on the front. I am at the point to split the front (it is a v-neck) so I think I can make it...

I can't believe how fast November went! I did make a little progress on my knitting and even wrote a few pages on my dissertation. I believe I finished 14 skeins in November, purchased 8 (mostly for gifts and all on sale), but that is ok as I still came out ahead with fewer in the collection than at the beginning of the month. I will keep knitting... In December I will be buying some more yarn for a sweater, so I already know I will be bad.

In the past week or so I finished four dragonflies, four small hearts and two other cloths -- Plus I made some small progress on my ribby shell (sorry, no photo). Unfortunately, I only finished two skeins of yarn (towards my goal of 5 for the month). I had to purchase another in Robins egg blue to finish one of the cloths. I was about 80% done and it just did not look right when attempted to bind off early. Technically not a strike because I needed it to finish the project. And I kept using it for more cloths although there is a little left.

I need to come up with a small project to use up the little remainders - not enough for another cloth, sometimes not enough for a stripe on a ball band, but too much to throw away... Of course, the colors do not always go very well together either :)

No photo this time... Because I have been spending so much time at school, my knitting has suffered! For October I finished 8 skeins and purchased 1 (which is already used!) This satisfied my goal of using 5 skeins during the month. I took my reward as one skein purchased for each 5 used. I also made several inches progress on my ribby shell which has been languishing for a few months. It will look great under my new black suit! I just have to keep working on it... My goal for November is to use another 5 skeins.

I know... I've been quiet lately... School is keeping me really busy! Since the beginning of October I knit 17 cloths! I only used 6 skeins of yarn :( Per my stash reduction reward I can purchase one skein for each 5 skeins used. I purchased that skein and already knit it up in this photo!

Since I met my goal, I am going to work on my UFOs next (yes, these have been there for months!!)
1. the slipper for felting
2. the ribby sweater

I also have 2 partially completed cloths, but need to match the yarn for completion. One is like 8 rows from completion, but apparently I can't match that cornflower blue anymore. I hate to frog, but I may not have a choice if I want to finish... However, I want to work on these other projects before continuing with the partial cloths because the will both require additional yarn purchases :)

Two skeins finished in this photo, but I made some rug mugs/small face cloths out of some other scraps for a total of nine skeins used so far this month. I met my goal of 5 skeins used, but I still purchased too much.

Next month, my goal will once again be 5 skeins used. It will be really hard. I have lots on my calendar... Plus the three evening classes...

Week of Wool

Skeins used this week: 4, total for August 10... However, I purchased 4 skeins yesterday on sale at Michaels... This is a total usage for the month of 10 skeins or a net use of -3 for August and -17 for the past two months. With my purchase of 7 during August, I exceeded my allocation of 1 skein for every 5 used, however, 1) there was a sale and 2) I now have enough to finish a project designated for Christmas...

The question I have to answer for myself is if I want to continue on the stash busting since my knitting time is so restricted. What will be really feasible for the next month with my class schedule? Obviously, no more purchases are really needed... even when the yarn is on sale...

Preparing for the ETC Trunk Show

The Etsy Texas Crafters have been invited to put on a Trunk Show at the Etsy Labs September 28-29, 2007. Without some dedicated knitting I would never be ready... so over the past couple of weeks, I started creating items specifically for this event. I fully expect some of these items to go to other homes before I send the box to the trunk show and I will add some other finished items from my collection. There are lots of little details to think of in the mean time :)

As far as my stash progress goes, I have finished an additional three skeins over the past couple weeks, so a total of 7 skeins used in August so far.

More Bowls???

As far as meeting my goal of 5 skeins a month goes, I never officially declared what my reward would be under the checkbook option of the stashalong. I decided that for each 5 skeins of yarn I finished, I could buy 1. Sugar n cream was on sale at Hobby Lobby last week and I picked up three skeins :)

All is not lost though... This knitting photo covers the end of July through August 11. In July, I finished a total of 14 skeins. So far in August, I have finished four skeins. Once dry, I'll post photos of the finished products :)

Stash update: 3 new - 14 July - 4 August = -15 skeins in about 45 days. Yippee!

For those of you wondering, my trip went well last week. I was busy, busy, busy -- learned a few things, saw some old friends, went to the Mutter Museum and to see the King Tut exhibit at the Franklin Institute (I was in Philadelphia). By benefit of my evening social activities I also went to the Art Museum and the Natural History Museum. Very nice.

Finished 8 cloths! Three skeins used. No purchases :)
I worked a tiny bit on the ribby shell, finished sole #2 on slipper for felting, started body #1 on slipper for felting. Additionally, I cast on for the mystery stole 3. My beads finally arrived (it took kind of a long time) and the triangle ones look great. I just think it will look better using the #4 needles instead of #5, so I am going to start over. In reality, either would be fine, but the #5 seem a bit too open (and I do not have any #3, yet)...

I was bad, very very bad

In April, I decided to go on a yarn diet with just a couple rules...
1) purchases to finish a project (it would be no good to have a sweater with 1.5 arms...)
2) purchases for special requests are ok (knitting for others)

I was doing pretty good, May was cotton cloth month and June started as wool month... great. Then I got a special request for lots of cloths... since I had already used lots of cotton and did not have the requested colors, well... I slipped... (I am not complaining, I like knitting cloths!) Next I got a request for more felted bowls (and designed to coordinate with the cloths), so I slipped again... Proof:

It is not my fault that both Joanns and Hobby Lobby had cotton yarn on sale this week :)

While I was not counting completed projects, yards used, dollars saved or hours spent knitting, I was counting number of skeins used... According to my card system, I purchased 45 skeins in June, used 14, so actually enhanced by collection by 31 skeins. This is what I will have added to my collection in June:

This was a busy week, so I only got two cloths finished: (from last week, you may recall that one of these was half finished - I really did not have time to knit this week!)

In July, I am going to continue to work on cotton cloths, felted bowls, the ribby shell (that I have not knitted on in weeks) and start the mystery stole 3. I am just waiting on beads for that stole and then I am off. That is my plan and I am sticking to it :)

Yes, not only is the siamese on the table (a bad place), she is obscuring the view of my cloths... This week I finished three modified ball bands, two coordinating cloths out of potpouri and started on another in country sage.

I also figured out that the beads I have are 11/0 and the tiny #14 crochet hook is too large to go through the hole in the bead... So, I purchased two different colors for the mystery stole 3, so will have to see which ones coordinate better with my yarn when they arrive...

Keeping me honest

I really have been working on my special project... but that means purchasing yarn... This week I was asked to make some more felted bowls... so I placed an order for yarn... I am not counting it until it arrives, but there will be a significant addition to my collection. It is not so much a stash as a collection as really I do tend to purchase for projects, not just because. I do feel bad about breaking the no purchase rule, but if I really do not have what it takes to finish the project, then it has to be ok, right?

The "save cash, use your stash" group may be disbanded... (some people have volunteered to help) but this means that maybe I will not feel so bad for making these special project yarn purchases... On the other hand, I am looking for another stash busting place to join.

Also new: I joined the mystery stole 3 knit-a-long... I have not decided which yarn I will use, some misti alpaca or something from knitpicks... likely the knitpicks and so I had to purchase another skein since one of the skeins I have is such a tangled mess, I will never be able to use it and without, I will not have enough in my stash. If I went with the misti alpaca, I would have to acquire more, so it is more likely going to become a scarf. I need beads to match, so I have to look through my collection to see what actually will look right. I am certain that I do not need to purchase more beads at this point either! It is unlikely I will swatch although I did knit the test pattern into one of this weeks finished cloths.

Confession: Thanks to the cloths I knitted last month, I have received some special requests... I had to purchase more yarn, 7 skeins so far... According to "my" rules, this is ok, since it is a special request (plus, most of the colors I have never used before). But I still feel bad as I was making progress on reducing my stash (and finishing some projects just for me). I am excited to work on this project though!

Cloths of the week

7 dish/wash cloths completed! In May I finished 8 skeins of cotton yarn (and two more on June 1) . I am not counting the skeins used for the ribby sweater until that project is completed. I think it is only fair that way. Therefore, June will be wool month.Yes, I have some fun felting ahead of me! I already nearly finished a bowl just have to weave in the ends! In that process, another skein was finished. There is something satisfying about finishing projects, finishing the skeins, weaving in the ends...

Knitting update

No progress (or very little) on the ribby shell this week. I really want to use up some of my cotton yarn so I have been focusing on knitted cloths this week... Two Texas cloths, a large heart in hand cloth, a bunny in yellow and purple variegated, and a little coaster to finish up the ecru yarn. I did have to buy a skein of ecru peaches and cream to finish one of the Texas cloths, so I went ahead and kept knitting so as not to have another remnant in my stash. I used the remnant of ecru and the new skein, the others are still partials in my stash. Maybe next week these will get used too.

Ribby Shell Progress (and other knits)

Ribby Shell: Two skeins used and started the third. Approximately 8 inches on the body complete. I decided to add arms to this, assuming I can make it work. I found some old (from 2004) articles on Knitty.com that will be useful in this endeavor.

Swatching for Isabella: my next project... actually, part of this swatch was done for the other sweater that I decided not to do. I know, I know, this is not exactly the right way to do a swatch, but it is just too much work to knit so many inches in the round :) I have to check the pattern, but I think I am close on the gauge. Each segment is done in a different size needle.

Other completed items:

Ribby Shell

Pattern: Chic Knits Ribby Shell
Yarn: Knit Picks Elegance in Cornflower
Began: May 9

Progress so far: one skein and a bit more finished (just over 4 inches).

The Ribby pattern changes (hence the stitch markers), but it is pretty easy going. The first 1.25 inches is done on #4 needles and then the rest is on #6, however, the difference between the needles is less noticeable than I expected (using knit picks options). In both the skeins that I have used, there have been knots as I pulled from the center of the skein so I have more ends to weave in than I want. Instead of waiting for the end of the project to weave in the ends, I am going to weave them in as I go, sort of... When I worked on the Wicked Sweater, that is the only thing I did and lots of other projects sat on the sidelines (and I left all the ends to weave in until the end). I will work on the ribby sweater each time I knit for like an hour or so (this gets several rows knit) and then I can work on other projects. As I finish another project, I will weave in the ends on the ribby shell that have accumulated.

I went through Plano this week and stopped at the Wollie Ewe because I wanted some needles. I tried not to look at all the luscious yarns stacked high and went only to the needles. They had all sorts of other sizes, but not the ones I was looking for. So I left. Without making a purchase. I could have spent hours contemplating more projects, but I was successful in sticking to my "yarn diet"! Once my list of projects is reduced, I will go back, but for now I must resist temptation...

Pattern: Wicked Sweater from Zephyr Style
Yarn: Knitpicks Andean Silk in Olive
Amount: 12 skeins (just barely - could have started #13!)
Start day: March 3, 2007
End Day: April 30, 2007

Modifications to pattern:
1. No pocket
2. Added crossover twist to the bottom hem and the sleeves - each area is 12 rows long
3. Somehow, I added too many increases before the arms were moved to waste yarn so the chest area is a bit big. To compensate, I made more aggressive decreases for chest shaping and for more rows (similar to the largest pattern size, but not exactly).
4. Added waist decreases and hip area increases for shaping
5. Decreased long sleeve arms (I did not see this in the pattern and I did not want to have big floppy arm holes) - starting 12 rows from pick up stitches, I decreased every 5 rows 10 times, then (at the point about my elbow) I decreased every third row 12 times.This was my first sweater, so this may not be a good way to go, but it worked in this case for me and the sleeves are just a little too big, but not super floppy.

For my first sweater, I am exceedingly happy!

Beginning May 1, no more yarn purchases until some projects are complete.

My yarn tub is overflowing... And I have yarn that never made it to the tub... So, I will work on the projects that I have purchased yarn for. These projects include:
1) Chic Knits Ribby Shell
2) Knitty's Isabella
3) Shawl... I know this one is vague... I have several picked out, but I keep changing my mind - there is yarn for at least two...
4) Baby hats... I have been buying some soft acrylic that will be easy to wash in bright colors and have several ideas in my head
5) Charity afghan squares... maybe one in-between each of the other projects?
6) Socks... now that I have several skeins of sock yarn, it is time to make progress in this area too.
7) Fake-a-gamo in lovely bamboo yarn
8) Isabeau in Rowan summer tweed that I have ripped out about 20 times.
9) Dishcloth squares in various patterns that I have been accumulating

I do so much better when I have a plan! So here is my plan, committed and in writing :) Although it is likely I will not follow this order at all :)

This also means that I can purchase yarn today and tomorrow. One skein of brown and ???

Other modifications I am allowing myself to make to the Save Cash program, 1) yarn can be purchased when out of town (especially if on sale or not available locally) and 2) Additional yarn can be purchased to complete a project

All I have been working on for awhile is the Wicked Sweater... in part because I want to finish it and not get sidetracked with another project, but I also have not had much time to knit lately... only one evening for knitting this past week... I took this photo last weekend and have started on one arm since then. I fear I will run out of yarn because I somehow knit more increases into the arms before they were moved to waste yarn so the body part could be formed (it is a top down sweater). The sweater fits nice and I will get a fair amount of use out of it when it is actually done. I can not wait! I did the crossover twist hem at the waist as well as the collar so they look nice and did some shaping for the body. You can see my lifeline (of dental floss) in the middle and maybe a couple of safety pins to mark the waist shaping. A work in progress!

It seems that February flew by (or blew by if the regular 40-60+ mph winds are any indication!). I have recently finished a couple of washcloths in knitpicks shine - a red dress and a green shamrock. Must take photos. I made no progress on my sock project. I am still waiting on that addi needle, it has been a month with only one email to say it would be shipped in 1 or 2 weeks... No response to my last inquiry either... I purchased yarn and will start my first sweater tonight. Wicked. I did a gauge swatch and got 17 instead of 18 stitches per inch. I do not have the next size up in the knitpicks needles and do not want to wait for another order to arrive. I may just make the next size in the pattern to accommodate for the difference since I did purchase enough yarn. The owner of my LYS figured the gauge for me - here I thought it was some complicated thing - nope. I will see when I get started. In the meantime, I must do some reading for my dissertation. Someday, maybe, people will be asking what my topic is and I will have to explain it... I better figure it out first!

Fetching finished

On Wednesday I finished the fetching, then Friday I realized that I would like an earwarmer headband, so I make one with the extra yarn from the second skein.

Yarn notes: Fetching
Diakeito dark lavender 1 skein + some
Knit on one #5 knitpicks options (24" cable) using the magic loop technique
Note: I added one additional cable twist on the finger area and 2 additional rounds on the thumb. One skein would be enough without these modifications. I have been wearing them and would like them to be a bit tighter in the finger area. May try washing...

Yarnnotes: Earwarmer headband
Most of a second skein of the Diakeito. There is not enough left for an additional 5 rows as that would be what is needed for an additional cable turn and proper looking finish.
Knit on one #7 bamboo 16" circular in the round (smallest 16" I have right now) - no seaming.

On the needles: one sock from sock knit a long.
I realized after casting on and knitting a couple inches that 1) the #2 (3mm) knitpicks options were not good for the k1p1 ribbing as the fabric was too loose, 2) I cast on too many stitches for the leg as it is too loose where I wear my socks on the rare occasions that I wear socks, 3) I do not need a 6 inch leg as I never wear socks that high. SO, I frogged all my progress. I found a pattern for an ankle sock, started with 4 double pointed needles #2 (2.75mm). This is making a better sock. I was ready to turn the heel when I realized I misread the instructions and the 23 row heel flap was supposed to be over 2 needles worth of stitches and I had only done one. Frogged back to the beginning of the heel flap.

So far I have completed the Openwork Scarf. Yep, that's it. I have also done several cloths - the gumdrop twist, frog, heart, snowflake... (no photos yet) My order from knitpicks finally arrived, with the sock yarn, needles and other misc goodies. Sock KAL starts officially Monday, January 15. I started working on the bejewled scarf and realized that the problem was not the needles (I had been using bamboo before) but the problem was the yarn. I frogged as much of that as I could to salvage the yarn and will figure out something else to make with the yarn as well as some other yarn to make into the bejewled scarf. It is a pretty pattern worked up, but I selected bad yarn. The yarn really does make a difference. Lesson learned. Just a bit ago I re-cast on for the fetchings. It is cold here this week, so these will be a nice addition - hopefully, they will be made faster this time around and I can atually finish them before frogging!!! I do like cables and will be attempting the no needle cable method - it may not work... I started a cable purse, but after a couple of inches I realized I was doing it wrong and frogged that - Yes, I have been doing alot of frogging lately. I know how to do cables with a tool, but the no tool method seems really useful. More practice is all I suppose.

I definitely like the front better. Knit in 100% cotton peaches and cream gumdrop color - a rainbow of fruit flavors with white, yellow, green, orange, red/pink and purple! The stitch is a twist design I found on a sock pattern online but modified for a cloth and then modified again once I got started. For sale in my etsy store (here).

One down - Openwork scarf

I modified the original pattern from a cast on of 16 to a cast on of 12 because I was afraid I would run out of yarn. Given the amount that is left over, maybe I could have gone to 14 cast on and still been fine, but I am not sure - each row takes quite a bit of yarn to finish. Will have to come up with something else to use the rest of this yarn on..., maybe a baby hat? I really like this scarf - it is long, skinny and comfortable! Very stretchy, but I think it is safe to say 5 inches across and 82 inches long.

Yarn Notes: Baby Bee - Dreamy Baby Chenille in soft licorice (a charcoaly grey color), super soft and bulky, knit on #15 bamboo circulars.

Other projects on the needles:

January Dishcloth KAL - just started today, one row knit will finish the rest later on
Bejeweled scarf - waiting on new needles from knitpicks, the bamboo ones are not pointy enough for the yarn I selected and it is just too hard to work.

Illusion knitting that actually looks like it is supposed to look! Presented here as the front and back candy corn dish cloth. The mid-October knit-a-long finished on time as each day's lines were presented by the yahoo monthly dishcloth group. Plus you must note that I even posted this one timely :) Saturday was the last day, I photoed yesterday and posted today - yea me! I was lucky to get the last ball of black at the last store around here that sells 100% cotton yarn. Otherwise, I would have had to substitute and it would not have looked as good to me...

August mid-month knit a long

This was the cloth that was slated for the August mid-month knit along. Here you can see both sides of the dish cloth side by side. How cool is that? I finished this on my own schedule though and in September. While it is hard to tell here in the photo, it is really cool how the varigated colors turned into stripes on the face ot the cloth. Reall, the colore is more purple than blue, but I did not do any color correction on this photo. I am sure someone will be getting this one as a gift if I do not decide I like it too much my self. After completing this one, I think I can now do a ball band cloth (I frogged the first one I started). I now understand how to do the skips and keep track of them better, so the cloth turns out like it is supposed to. 100% cotton Sugar & Cream using size 7 bamboo circular needles (with a small cord, perfect for discholths)

This was one of the monthly knit alongs on the dishcloth yahoo group... I did not do it during the monthly schedule... But it is finished. At the time (I did this one last month) it was one of the harder dishcloths I had attempted and I had to pay close attention to the pattern. It is a pretty 100% cotton in a varigated blue. I gave it as a gift and it was well received.

Support breast cancer awareness

I mailed off my Irish Hiking Scarf yesterday afteroon. I feel good about sending it off to people who can really use the extra warmth this winter. http://pinkchallenge.blogspot.com/ It has been fun to follow the progress on this blog and in my small way, I did something.

Now on to the next challenge. I have been working on a scarf of my own design and went to sew the two panels together yesterday and found a major error. I think I am going to have to frog it back aways... quite a long ways actually :( to make it look better since I do not think I can pick up the stitches in the pattern area. I already redid one side yesterday after the mess I made of the merge seam... now it is the other side that has the error... Obviously I was not as careful as I ought to have been...

Also on the needles is the October dishcloth KAL. I actually started on the first day and have completed day 2 on day 2! This is some sort of record for me... Additionally I am working on a shawl, but it will take forever - only on row 4 of about 400 (I think) it will be long. I'll post progress when there is something besides the border to show. I love the knitpick needles that I am using. The cable is really flexible!

Cabled Scarf Done!

Yes, it has been sitting there... just needing the ends sewn in... I finished that last night! YEAH!

For the knitty gritty details, this ended up being about 7 inches x 60 inches. I used parts of two skeins of Caron Simply Soft in Victorian Rose (what was left over on one skein and all the bits of sample projects I still had around was not enough to make this scarf long enough) and there is some left over on the second skein. It is a soft scarf, and will make someone very happy. As stated in my previous post, I will be sending this one to a charity that supports breast cancer.

I am glad I attempted this project so now I can do more cabling!

Cabled Scarf Update

Just have to weave in all the ends and send it off. I have more of the pink yarn, so it is possible that I can make another scarf in time for the deadline at the end of the month. I would feel good about that donation as breast cancer has affected a friend of mine this year, and other forms of cancer in general seems to affect lots of people I know.

Cable Scarf is getting close!

I think 3 more cable turns and it will be finished, then I have the daunting task of weaving in all those little ends from the scraps of yarn I used... I don't know what I was thinking since those bits were never going to help make it long enough... I was lucky though - I bought the next to last skein of this yarn and the other skein was all undone and would have take hours to untangle. I even went to other stores looking for the yarn, who knew this "no dye lot" yarn would be so hard to find! Just a few more days and I will be finished and then I can move on to more projects!

Cable Scarf Progress

So I have been working on my cable scarf and have come to the end of my yarn. As I feared, it is a bit short... even after frogging all the other projects I had made with that yarn it is about a foot short... I think I will have to get some more yarn, just to ease my mind and make the scarf long enough. I really resisted buying more of this yarn since I do not like it (although it is soft...)

I can say that I really like cables and will be working on another scarf with cables in the near future. I have a lovely red skein that would look lovely when cabled.

I just need to take some photos... I have also finished several dishcloths (at least 4!), I just need to locate my needles so I can weave in all the ends and then I can take some photos. I have a number of projects that I need to weave in the ends for! Oh where are those needles???

My scarf is quite a bit longer now... I was making good progress with one cable turn a day (8 lines) but then... well, I have not been doing one cable turn a day lately :) It looks nice though. I have realized that I will run out of yarn before I get the scarf as long as I want it (and as long as would be a useful length). I have to decide what I want to do when that point gets closer. Who knew it would take so much yarn to get as far as I have come?

The RSPCA is the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and all proceeds will go to this organization in the UK. My wonderful siamese came from the SPCA in Dallas so this organization holds a special place in my heart.
